I would say FX are the most important if you wish to emulate a sound.
In my own case i picked up a cheap squeir strat for 80 quid, and to be honest i think they f**ked up in the factory and put the wrong sticker on it becuase i cannot tell the difference in sound to a £1500 quid model apart from the low action, which im gunna sort out.

As for fx, pick up a BEHRINGER guitar link UC6102 for £50, its a usb link.
It comes with software called guitar combo's from native instruments which emulate all the classic amps and fx, it will get you rocking straight away.

The Behringer also works with guitar rig3 software form native instruments, and Amplitube2. You can find this software on torrent sites and when you get famous and make loads of money you can buy two copies and rant on about how good this software is. until then, grab it and use it!.

Its all down to the pick ups and hormonics with guitars.
